FAQ

General FAQ

Q1: How much will shipping be?
A1: The cost of shipping depends on the weight of the item. Long wigs and wigs with clip-on ponytails will cost more than short wigs. If you live in the US and choose standard ground shipping, it will be $4-10 for a single wig.  For priority mail, it will be $6.50-12 for a single wig. For express overnight shipping it will be $25-40 for a single wig. Standard international shipping ranges from $8-20 for one wig.

Q2: Do you ship to Canada?
A2: Yes! If you live in Canada and choose the Canadian standard international shipping option, it costs approximately the same as US standard shipping, $4-12.  How long the items take to arrive will depend on where precisely you live and how long customs holds your package, but most of our Canadian customers have received their merchandise in 6-10 business days. Note that standard international shipping doesn’t include a tracking number. If you want a tracking number for your package you can choose international priority mail, which is $23-$28 to Canada. To Canada, priority shipping isn’t really much faster than standard, but it does have tracking and insurance. We also have started offering express mail to Canada, which is $33-41 for a single wig, has a tracking number, and arrives in 3-5 business days.

Q3: Do you ship to England/Australia/Norway/Brazil/other country?
A3: We ship to every country it is legal to ship to from the US. For standard international shipping, it costs $8-20 for a single wig. The exact cost depends on the weight of the wig. Most of our customers in Great Britain, Western Europe, and Australia have received their merchandise in around two weeks. Other locations, especially in South America, have taken longer, often around four weeks. Much of the time of shipment depends on customs wait times in your country, which are beyond our control. Please note that standard international shipping does not include a tracking number. If you want a tracking number for your package you can choose international priority mail, which is $32-40 and arrives to most locations in 6-10 business days. We are also  now offering international express mail, which is $43-54 for a single wig, offers a tracking number, and arrives in 3-5 business days.

Q4: Where do you ship from?  How long will shipping take?
A4: We are located in Shawnee, Oklahoma and ship via the US Postal Service.  Standard ground shipping usually takes a week or less to locations in the US.  Priority shipping will take 2-3 days.  Express shipping is overnight to most US locations. We always try to mail your package within two business days of receiving your order, and priority and express orders go out the very next business day.

Q5:  Can I track my shipment?
A5:  Once your package has been shipped we will email you with the tracking number.  At this time we’re only able to offer tracking numbers for US orders and for international orders with Priority or Express International shipping. Standard (first-class) international shipping is much more economical but does not offer a tracking number.

Q6:  Life, the universe, and everything?
A6: 42

T-shirt FAQ

Q7: What size should I order?
A7:  The T-shirts are adult unisex sizes, and are pre-shrunk, so the size should not change much after you wash it.  Please refer to this chart for the measurements of each size.

Tshirt sizing chart

Q8: What makes the shirts organic?  They’re not edible.
A8: The cotton used to make the shirts was grown without the use of harmful chemicals.  Wearing non-organic cotton won’t put chemicals in your system like eating non-organic food can, but cotton agriculture releases many toxic chemicals into the world.  It’s just better to support the use of safe, organic farming.

Q9: Are there any special care instructions for the shirts?
A9: The screenprinted shirts can be washed and dried normally.  Wash like colors with like, and do not iron on top of the design.  For the iron-on transfer shirts, additionally, you should turn them inside out when you wash them so that the image lasts longer.

Q10: Do you have women’s or children’s sizes?
A10: Nope.

Wig FAQ

Q11: What are the wigs made out of?
A11:  They are made from high quality heat-resistant fiber called Hiperlon.  This fiber is as soft and natural looking as the kanekalon that many other cosplay wigs are made of, but it also can be styled with heat tools such as straighteners, curlers, and blow dryers.

Q12: Do you make these wigs yourselves?
A12:  No.  We only wish we had these awesome wig-making skills. We special order these wigs wholesale from a wig factory, and then pass them along to you.

Q13: What size are the wigs?
A13:  They are one size fits most.  There are adjustable straps at the back of all the wigs to make them fit on bigger or smaller heads.  We test them on a model with a 22″ head circumference and waist-length hair. If your head is quite large or you have a lot of thick hair we suggest completely unfastening the adjustable straps for the largest possible size.

Q14:  What is the difference between the clip-on ponytails and the integral ponytails?  Which is better?
A14:  Clip-on ponytails are easier to wear, because it is just a normal short wig with one or two ponytails that you can attach wherever you want.  With integral ponytails, it is a longer wig that has been specially designed to be pulled up.  Because of the way the fibers are attached in an integral ponytail wig, the cap of the wig is a different design that fits more snugly.  It is harder to get this kind of wig onto your head–you may need a friend to tug from the back while you tug from the front.  If you are a first-time wig wearer we suggest clip-on ponytails.  Integral ponytails are only best for specific styles where you need to see the part in the hair, or where the ponytail needs to look especially thin.

Q15:  How do I wash my wig?
A15:  You shouldn’t have to wash it very often, and the more you wash it the faster it will wear out.  When you do need to wash it, you can use ordinary shampoo or special wig shampoo.  Wash it in the sink with lukewarm water and then rinse it off.  Put it to dry on a wig head if you have one.  If not, bunch up some towels in the shape of a head and put the wig on that.  Never brush or comb it while wet.  Once it’s dry you can brush and style it.

Q16: What can I use to style my wig?
A16: You can use straighteners or curlers because the wig fibers are heat resistant.  Start with a low setting and then raise it until you find which setting works best.  Hairspray works great for making soft spikes or getting little spoinks.  Many of our customers use hair glue, such as Got2B Glued, for stiff spiky styles like Roxas and Sora.  Don’t use hair wax–it will never come out.  Hairspray washes out just fine if you don’t like how it turned out.  Because our wigs are so thick, many of them style well using just your fingers.

Q17: My wig has gotten tangled.  What can I do?
A17: All long wigs will tangle, just like ordinary long hair.  Try to untangle it first with your fingers, gently.  Then use a wide-toothed comb, starting at the ends and slowly working up the length of the wig, again, gently.  Vigorous brushing with a wire brush will eventually fray the ends of the wig and will pull out some of the fibers, so avoid using a brush, and be very gentle even with your wide-toothed comb.  Wig conditioner can help your wig stay nice, as can wig de-tangler.  Follow the directions on the bottle.  When you aren’t wearing the wig, store it neatly in the bag, wrapped in the black net just like it was when you bought it.  Or store it on a wig head.

Q18: Can you get me a floor-length wig?
A18: Most cosplayers agree that for characters who are shown with floor-length hair, a wig that goes down about to your thighs will give a similar enough impression without the hassle. The longer a wig is, the heavier it is, and the more likely it is to want to slide off your head or give you a headache. Also, the longer it is, the worse it will tangle. We suggest getting wigs that are 40-50 inches long rather than going all the way to the floor, unless you intend to wear the wig only for a single photoshoot and then take it off again.

Q19: Are you wig stylists? Can I pay you to style my wig?
A19: We cut bangs, trim length, and do crazy things with hairspray on our own cosplay wigs.  We prefer not to risk it on other people’s wigs, however, and we are certainly not up to spiking your Cloud Strife wig.  If you are a professional wig stylist or can recommend one, email us and we will post handy links.

Q20: Do you have any other colors or styles?
A20:  Not yet, but we get new wigs in often.  Feel free to request a color or style that you’d like to buy. See question 22 for how we handle requests.

Q21: Can you get me a wig for _______ character?
A21: We welcome wig requests! We love a challenge. But we can’t fulfill them all.

Here’s how we’re doing requests now. We log each request as it comes in, and if it seems like something we could do, we add it to our list of potential new wig styles. Approximately every two months we put up a poll on our Facebook site, asking our customers which new styles we should begin to stock. After the poll closes, we’ll get started on the winning styles, and they will be available to order about 6-8 weeks from then. The styles that don’t win won’t be added at that time.

Because we get so many more wig requests than we used to, because we need to stock at least 30 of any new style, and because a number of wigs that were requested have not sold well, we need to be a bit more selective about how many new styles we stock. This is why we’re doing the poll now! Also, for every new style that gets added, an old style is retired and made Limited Edition.

If the wig you’re requesting is very like a style we already have in stock, go ahead and request it, but understand that if it’s a minor step away from something we already carry: ie: With shorter bangs, ½ inch shorter all round, dyed one shade darker… we will probably refer you to a wig stylist, and be unable to carry a new redundant style.

Q22: Are you going to be at ________ convention?
A22:  On the left sidebar you can check out our list of conventions.  If you’re going to be at one of them you can try on the wigs, and purchase them without worrying about shipping costs.

Q23: Is ________ wig in stock?
A23: If there’s an “add to cart” button then, yes, it’s in stock! As soon as we run out of something we take down the button and put up an “out of stock” notice so that no one can buy it accidentally and be disappointed.

Q24:  The wig I need is out of stock!  When will you have it again?
A24:  We normally restock within four weeks.  Use the “contact us” page to find out exactly how long it is going to be.

Q25:  Can I return the wig if it doesn’t work out?
A25:  As long as it is in the original packaging and you have not worn it or modified it in any way, we accept returns within three weeks of purchase.  You will need to pay the return postage, and we will refund your money once we get the wig back.

Q26: What are the strings on the ponytail wig clips for? Can I cut them off?
A26: The strings are elastic laces that hold the hair onto the claw clip. If the claw clip should ever break, you can loosen the strings, slide the hair off the clip and onto a new clip. To make the strings not show when you wear the wig, tie them in a bow and tuck them inside the clip. You can cut them a little bit shorter, but don’t cut them entirely off.

I noticed that you have removed the discount section of your wig sales page. Were you planning on discontinuing the discount line, or is there a possibility that you would bring it back?

(Not that I don’t like the high-quality wigs you have for sale, just that I recall seeing a discount one that I really liked! ^^;)

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

We still have some of the sale wigs lurking about, and we’ll probably put them up on their own page before too long. Which one were you interested in? I can see if we still have it.

  2. GinNo Gravatar says:

Hello! I have a question about your wigs: Is it possible to dye them with the usual techniques used for dyeing wigs e.g. Sharpie, FW Ink, etc.?

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

We’ve tried the Sharpie dye on a blond wig and it did work, though as usual it took several layers. We haven’t tried the FW Ink so can’t speak from experience on that one. If it helps, the fiber is Hiperlon, also known as high quality heat resistant fiber, which is the same stuff most of the good quality wigs out there are made of now.

  3. EmilyNo Gravatar says:

Hello! Your wigs are wonderful. I was wondering if you take USPS money orders (at my own risk)?

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Yes, we do take either checks or money orders. Let us know which wig you want, whether you would like standard or priority shipping, and what your mailing address is. We’ll email you with the total and with our mailing address. Once we receive the money order, we’ll ship your wig. Our email is thefivewits@thefivewits.net. Thanks!

    Hi guys.
So a friend of mine was ordering a shirt for me as payment for a piece of art I did for him. He ordered the shirt about a week ago, but never received the email with the tracking number or any confirmation that the shirt was sent. He also emailed you re: the lack of communication and didn’t receive an answer, but he did send you the money and the shirt is paid for, we’re just waiting on confirmation and product.
Did you guys just miss his emails or what?

    • HotZombieNo Gravatar says:

You know what, scratch that, it came!! Sorry for the confusion ^^ And thank you! I love it!

      • RuthNo Gravatar says:

I am glad your shirt came! There were a few orders that we didn’t send the tracking notifications for on account of Katsucon craziness and subsequent burn out. I did not get any e-mails about those though. :( I will check and see if they got eaten by over-eager spam filters of something.

    Hellou
I am from Finland and I was wondering, can you send wigs so far. And will it pay more than $ 10. (Postage, of course)
    I don’t order yet, but I thought I’d ask for a preliminary.
    Thank you :)

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Hi, we do send wigs to Finland. The shipping will be figured for you when you make the order, but it should be right around $10 (maybe $12). Thanks!

  6. LanaNo Gravatar says:

Do the wigs come exactly as they are in the pictures, or do they need to be styled?

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Unless we say in the comments, “See the lower right pic for how someone styled it,” the wigs all come out of the bag looking the way they are in the picture. We specialize in wigs that don’t need much styling before you can wear them.

  7. ManaihNo Gravatar says:

Do you have reviews for your wigs?

  8. desiNo Gravatar says:

    oops sorry
i already sended (probably not a word) a recommendation for a wig
but i dont mind if you cant get to me until august
that is actually better so i can save up more money just in case of the price
thanks for putting up this page!

  9. ChibbiNo Gravatar says:

    Hey!

I’m very interested in getting the AndrAIa wig before a convention in August. I don’t know though if you still have it or how long it would take to ship it to Montreal, Canada. Could you please tell me? Thanks!

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Yes, we have the AndraiAI wig in stock right now. When something’s out of stock we always take down the “Purchase” button so nobody can accidentally buy it. We ship out of Pennsylvania, which is pretty close to you, and folks in Ontario usually get their orders within a week, so I don’t think it would be more than a week for you either. Hope that helps!

  10. CatherineNo Gravatar says:

Do you have the purple Crona wig in stock now and if I order it now can I get it by 8/2?

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Yes, it’s in stock. When something’s out of stock we take down the “add to cart” button. We ship within two business days of receiving your order, and it doesn’t take more than a week to get anywhere in the US, so unless this is an international shipment you should have no problem getting it by August 2 if you order ASAP.

  11. Zanreo says:

Hi! I’m from Norway, and wondering if you could send wigs here? And how much would the shipping cost?

    • JessicaNo Gravatar says:

Yes, we can ship to Norway. It would cost $10-15 for standard first class shipping, which does not have a tracking number, and $28-32 for priority mail shipping which does have a tracking number. With either service, your package would most likely arrive within two weeks. We usually have good shipping times to Europe.

I’ve browsed through some of your wigs can we specifically request a full skin base for a wig? (Was interested in a axel wig)
    -Cheers~

  14. EeveeNo Gravatar says:

You say shipping for the US is $3-8, but perhaps could you estimate what it would be to ship to Long Island, New York for this wig: http://thefivewits.net/2011/03/stupid-smexy-tomb-thief/?

  16. AlexNo Gravatar says:

heya! i was wondering, are ALL the wigs hipirlon? (how ever ya spell it)
cuz alot of wig stores here dont sell heat resistant wigs.

  17. WendyNo Gravatar says:

Do you guys bring all the wigs on your websites to cons? Because I want to buy the Rapunzel wig but I’m afraid if I order it now it won’t arrive on time…

    • BirdyNo Gravatar says:

Generally, yes (and Rapunzel specifically yes because it’s sparkly and new and very long). And we especially bring them if someone requests a wig be available at a con, so this comment is very helpful. :)
Which con do you want it to be at? We can even set one aside for you so we don’t sell out of it before you get there.

  18. Alfred says:

What websites do you commend for cosplay? I’m specifically looking for Hetalia stuff that’s cheap but awesome. Thanks!

  19. KenzieNo Gravatar says:

Would you guys consider coming to Ikasucon in July in Fort Wayne, Indiana? There are never any GOOD wig dealers there DX
